Callum Hanton

Callum Hanton

co-founder and CEO
“Alberta is a place where determination, intelligence, and vision, rather than politics, cunning and luck, make someone successful. I believe that my passion for entrepreneurship and commitment to delivering quality products and experiences will bring that mantra to life.”

Having started the company in 2020, Callum is an innovative trailblazer who challenges the status quo; it’s what inspired his revolutionary design behind Chinook’s FlightTrain technology and keeps him pushing past traditional ideological limitations.

As someone who grew up in rural Alberta, Callum experienced firsthand the challenges in accessible transportation, the impact of subpar supply chain options, and the unwavering commitment and comfort in sticking with tried-and-true rail methods. An inquisitive interest in technology and infrastructure led Callum to design a system addressing these very concerns. Based on existing and past technology, used with little success, Callum designed the FlightTrain – a revolutionary transportation model that brings together traditional elements of railway, like fixed track and train cars, with aerospace technology to deliver high-speed and energy efficiency.

As CEO, Callum works with every member of his purposefully curated team to develop the FlightTrain technology, leads investor relations and strategic growth, and is responsible for making Chinook’s business, political, or technical goals a reality. He is an integral piece of the organization, and as the primary visionary for the company and its project, he is unwavering in his commitment to seeing it succeed. It’s his attention to detail, pledge to delivering results, and business acumen that have established Chinook as a leader and attracted investors across industries and the world.

Before starting Chinook, Callum used his entrepreneurial prowess to revolutionize another industry. After trying cannabis-infused products firsthand, Callum was continuously disappointed with the subpar flavour and variety of non-inhalant options on the market. Inspired by traditional soda craft and interest in cannabis extracts, Callum went through over 3,700 iterations of his product before settling on a concept he was proud of and excited about. The invention started Bubble Bud Inc., an innovative Canadian licensed producer of craft-brewed, full-spectrum cannabis beverages. Using new infusion methods, Callum redesigned the cannabis drink experience to ensure infused cannabinoids remain tasteless while still delivering full-spectrum qualities. This product has been celebrated across the industry as a seminal moment in the cannabis sector, and the product is now offered in stores throughout Canada, with its headquarters and production facilities in Edmonton, Alberta. Callum is passionate about understanding approaches, inventions, and entrepreneurialism, which make his community a better place than he left it. Callum is currently studying at the University of Alberta.

Craig Kalvin

Craig Kalvin

Chief Financial Officer
“Alberta is the best province in the best country in the world. I'm also convinced of two things: one, that there has to be a better way to move cargo and freight in Canada, and two, that Chinook has the opportunity to change the world as we know it. With this technology, I believe we can do both and deliver safer, greener transportation options that move people and cargo with efficiency and speed.”

As Chief Financial Officer at Chinook since the beginning of 2022, Craig oversees all financial planning, growth, and management for the organization while working alongside CEO Callum Hanton to lead the organization to success through strategy, leadership, and operational effectiveness. Chinook has been very capital efficient at these early stages and is something that we are very proud of. Craig has provided strong fiscal management to Chinook’s operations, a company he believes will significantly impact the future of freight and supply chain management in Canada.

Earlier in his career, Craig worked as the CFO for a large natural resource production company. The company experienced significant growth during Craig’s time in that role. Furthermore, he was integral to finalizing the organization's asset sale for more than $CDN1 billion.  It also afforded Craig the opportunity to experience firsthand the impacts of poor rail service in industries that rely on rail service to get their products to market. Having spent nearly a decade in the industry; he’s excited to see Chinook bring forward a better option.

In 2013, Craig started a consulting firm supporting small and medium businesses with financial leadership and guidance going through transition, including corporate restructuring activities (mergers, acquisitions, share issuances), periods of employee transition, or when additional resources are needed for specific projects. During this time, he also got involved with a few start-up businesses. Craig is a trusted advisor and confidante for leading organizations across the country.

Craig is passionate about leadership development, operational effectiveness, and using financial information (both historical and forward-looking) to help Chinook manage itself better and make more informed decisions. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta and achieved his CPA accreditation in 2004.
